New Editing Features

I have updated the site so that editing your documents is much closer to a traditional word processor. I have been using this feature on other web sites for a few years, and have found this editor to be excellent for most purposes. The new features now also include the ability to upload images and embed them into your content, and to embed links to popular video sites. Your previous entries should still work fine, and they will continue to work and to use the old markup features.  New content will be created using the newer Full HTML editor with the nice toolbar.

You can change the editor you use with the "Input Format" options below the editor. This lets you use the old format if you like, or the nifty Full HTML option.

If you're a serious troglodyte like me, you can even switch to the Markdown option. Markdown does a really nice structured document, but it takes a little bit more effort on your part.  You can get full details at http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/basics

If you take this knuckle-dragging route, there are a couple of features you should know about:

  • You can still embed pictures by using the Image Assist link at the bottom of the body. It looks like a polaroid snapshot with a green plus sign.  It will put a bunch of weird looking text into the body of your document, but when you save or preview it will actually render a nice looking picture.
  • You can embed videos by putting in video:{url} surrounded by square braces, where {url} is the actual URL to your video on a video streaming site. Most mainstream sites are supported.
